LIVE ACTS

EUtropia

A multidisciplinary European cultural initiative involving young artists from nine countries creating evolving performances across Europe. The project engaged participants in workshops and residencies that reimagined the work at each location. Based on the Tower of Babel legend, EUtropia explored themes of coexistence, communication, and shared expression. The concept evolved through a four-month initial residency in Silkeborg, then traveled to partner countries where local artists contributed new perspectives. The project examined loneliness, human relationships, the need for common language, and examined whether universal truth can be defined. Performances employed visual expression through lighting, painting, engraving, and digital audio narratives combining music with sound composition. The live show was created throughout residencies in Cologne (Germany) and Florence (Italy), resulting in a 9-country European tour.

About the Project

EUtropia was a large-scale EU CULTURE 2007–2013 funded initiative bringing together approximately 250 young artists from nine European countries — Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, and Serbia — to co-create a shared multidisciplinary artistic language.

The concept was built on the Tower of Babel legend, exploring coexistence, communication, and shared expression. Rather than a fixed work, EUtropia was designed to evolve continuously: each national residency reimagined the performance through local artistic traditions and contemporary influences, blending rock, pop, classical, traditional, hip-hop, and ethnic aesthetics with visual and dramatic arts.

J3ZZ served as violinist, composer, producer, and performer throughout the project, contributed to the documentary soundtrack, and coached young artists during the Lille residency.

Development & Tour

The live show was developed through residencies in Silkeborg (Denmark), Cologne (Germany), and Florence (Italy), then toured to all nine partner countries.
