HYBRIS EX NIHILO (Live) is a duo album by J3ZZ and Endre Kertész — three pure improvisation recordings for acoustic cello and violin, captured in a single live session. Two musicians who had never shared a stage before. No rehearsal, no score, no safety net.
The violin and cello speak a common language — born from the same family of strings, shaped by centuries of classical tradition. Yet in free improvisation, that shared heritage becomes a field of tension rather than resolution. Familiar patterns surface and dissolve. Phrases begin in one instrument and finish in the other, or collide head-on, or simply coexist in parallel silences.
The title draws on the ancient Greek concept of hubris — the transgression of overreaching, of daring too much. Here it is not a flaw but a force: the audacity to create from nothing, to trust the encounter, to let two voices construct something unrepeatable in real time. Ex nihilo — out of nothing. No preparation, only presence.
