Ouverture

OUVERTURE — Written and directed by Lorenzo Ciacciavicca, 2011

A short film exploring themes of art, colors, sex, love, and communication.

The Vision

Ouverture is a seven-minute visual and sonic exploration of human connection. The film draws direct inspiration from Paul Klee’s artistic philosophy: “Art does not reproduce the visible; rather, it makes visible.”

The narrative captures a moment of intimate encounter between two characters — one exploring art and identity, the other navigating vulnerability and communication. The piece asks a simple, profound question: how do two people truly meet?

The Score

The composer, J3ZZ, collaborated with cellist Endre Kertesz to craft the musical landscape. Rather than merely accompanying the images, the score becomes a character itself — using cello and violin harmonies and dissonances as direct metaphors for the relationship dynamics on screen.

The music is both performer and narrative tool: it carries conflict and resolution, tension and release, voice and silence. By grounding the abstract themes of the film (art, color, sex, love, communication) in the physicality of acoustic instruments, the score invites the audience into the emotional depth of the encounter.
