Interactive/Live Sound Installation. A sonic exploration of action and intervention.
Binaural visit of the exhibition
Aren’t we making the transition from former to new times the scapegoat for our lack of intervention and responsible actions? Through this installation, the artists offer a reflection on a contemporary “photography” of present Hungarian society. The space itself echoes the reminiscences of its visits.
As visitors, let’s consider our options: — Raise our voice or remain silent? — Can we change the way we live together? — Are we the ones deciding our destiny?
“Unbalanced Forces” is a description of a system. First exhibited in Budapest (2016 February 13-16), it allowed the audience to navigate an interactive multichannel soundscape and reflect on the system they live in. Through interaction, visitors observed their own impact — a metaphor for their implication in the Hungarian system.
Our main research topic centers on interdisciplinary improvisation — specifically the moment between human, sound, and space. Our aim is to create a frame for sound installation that one can enter and explore, making it her/his own.
UNBALANCED FORCES - words and behind the scenes
A dialogue space whose only constant is the room itself; a sonic surface subject to the randomness inherent in human formats; an architecture unsettled by the forces that inhabit it — the multidisciplinary work Unbalanced Forces is a performative sound piece, permeable to the shocks of its environment.
The vast field of relation opens and closes with the open microphones that capture each interaction from the audience. To the original soundtrack is added the accidental contributions of visitors and collaborators called to perform within the space, interrogating the collective unconscious of the place. Movements and images collide with the forces and systems that interlock, shift, and clash.
What are the consequences of our actions on our world? A pessimistic perspective: the systems we create escape us, like the continuity of our gestures — like the echo of our voices. The enduring forces of soundtrack and architecture are themselves disrupted by the audience’s actions, whose after-the-fact interpretation ultimately undermines the original intentions. A playground of play and fault lines — where only the absurd bizarre keeps madness at bay — Unbalanced Forces is a metaphor for the reversal and recommencement of trajectories that weaken our societies and our politics.
